What is remedial massage?
Remedial Massage is a treatment that is targeted towards specific symptoms to help reduce pain, increase range of motion and support your body’s optimal function. More than just a deep tissue massage, Remedial Massage treatments incorporate a range of techniques in a precise manner to support your health goals.
What happens before a remedial massage treatment?
At the beginning of the 120 minute session we will discuss:
- What you are looking for in the treatment
- The symptoms you are experiencing
- When you first experienced the symptoms and what treatment you have used so far
The information you provide is used with your completed medical and lifestyle history focus your treatment. You will then go through a few different tests that may require you perform different movements or be placed in different positions. The therapist will explain what they are doing each step of the way. If at any time you feel uncomfortable you can let them know and they can adjust it accordingly.
Once the target tissues have been identified your therapist will discuss your treatment plan and outline what they will achieve during your appointment. If you agree to this then the treatment will begin. Remedial massage treatments use a range of techniques like relaxation, deep tissue, trigger point therapy and even dry needling. Before any techniques are performed your therapist will help you to understand why they believe the approach is best and highlight any risks and possible side-effects you may experience.
What happens during a remedial massage treatment?
We use different oils and balms with your treatment and will have discussed any allergies you may have prior to the treatment. During your treatment it is up to you whether or not you prefer to talk, listen to music or have your treatment in silence. We know that sometimes this is the only time you get to yourself, so our therapists understand and respect your choice. We will however check in from time to time just to ensure the level of pressure being used, or if they need your assistance in a technique.
What happens after a remedial massage treatment?
At the end of the treatment we will remove the residual oil, but we do recommend that you remain out of the sun until you have cleaned the oil off thoroughly in the shower. Once dressed we will do some retesting to check how effective your treatment was and so we can tailor your next one based on the results. Before you leave, we will discuss a few recommendations that you can do at home to support your treatment and also suggest when to book your next treatment to achieve your overall health and well-being goals.
